Contemporary Literature and Film

Literature is the reflection of what the human mind imagines, perceives, experiences and/or believes. Films, on the other hand, are the expression of such characteristics. When combined, Literature and Film can influence the way the human mind challenges imagination and beliefs. The Contemporary Literature and Film Course helps students explore and understand how literary works, which have been expressed through films, can influence how the human mind works. When a combiantion of film and literature exist, the human mind tends to:

  • Ask questions
    • Can/Did this really happen?
    • The book gave one story and the movie changed everything; why?
    • Why are the book and movie so different?
  • Enhance Imagination:
    • The movie portrays characters much different than the book; are they really that small?
    • Those images are so vivid. They're almost the way I had imagined them.
  • Be source to new ideas:
    • I don't think hobbits live like that. I'm going to write my own version and this time, it will be cool.
    • My Halloween costume will be similar but it won't have so much rags as those or as the shiny armour.

What the JDAHP course tries to do with their students is to mold them into becoming successful individuals -- to know more than just technology and to find a connection.
